Common Questions
Everything you need to know about biokinetics and our practice in Green Point, Cape Town.
A biokineticist is a healthcare professional registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) who uses exercise as medicine. We assess how you move, identify what's limiting your function, and design structured, individualised exercise programmes to improve health, rehabilitation outcomes, and performance.
Physiotherapy typically focuses on the acute and early phases of recovery — hands-on treatment, pain management, and restoring basic function. Biokinetics follows from there: we use structured, progressive exercise therapy to rebuild strength, restore movement patterns, and return you to full function. The two professions work closely together, and we accept referrals directly from physiotherapists.
Your first session is a thorough clinical assessment. We take a full history — your injury or health background, goals, lifestyle, and current physical capacity. We then assess how you move, test relevant strength and functional measures, and use that to design your personalised treatment plan. You'll leave with a clear picture of where you are and where we're going.
Comfortable clothing you can move freely in — similar to what you'd wear for light exercise. Trainers or flat exercise shoes are ideal.
Typically 45–60 minutes, depending on the service. Initial assessments may run slightly longer. Longevity Assessments and VO₂ Max tests have their own formats — contact us for specifics.
Coverage varies by scheme and plan. Many medical aids do cover biokinetics — either from savings or as a designated benefit. We provide full invoices with billing codes for submission. We recommend checking your specific benefits with your scheme beforehand.
Yes. We provide detailed invoices including all relevant billing codes for medical aid submission and reimbursement.
Not at all. We work with a wide range of patients — desk-bound professionals managing pain, older adults wanting to maintain independence, runners and athletes, and anyone wanting to move better and feel stronger. If you're unsure whether biokinetics is right for you, reach out and we'll advise.
Anyone recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, wanting to improve their movement or strength, looking for structured exercise guidance, or interested in understanding their physical health more objectively. Biokinetics is also the natural next step following physiotherapy for many patients.
